Raised Bog

In this beautiful National Park, water and land alternate. You’ll find lakes, ditches, canals, meadows, reedlands, bogs, and swamp forests, providing habitats for many species of plants and animals. Plenty to see! The observant viewer or flora and fauna expert can spot, among others, marsh spurge, the green marsh orchid, the black tern, and otters. Otters only live in high-quality environments, which speaks volumes about the quality of this National Park.

The Water in Weerribben-Wieden

What makes the Weerribben-Wieden National Park so special? The water! In the calm waters of the ditches and sluices, various aquatic plants grow, such as frogbit and water milfoil. This water is teeming with marsh-dwelling creatures, including many species of waterfowl. White bream, mud minnows, and pike can be found in the clean water, among others.

Maintaining the Weerribben

To ensure the high quality of the National Park, the park is intensively managed and maintained. The reeds are harvested in winter, and the meadows are mowed in summer. The ditches, canals, and banks are also regularly cleaned by the park managers.
